I know I'm supposed to be focused on that poor horse, but there's a goblin with a parrot and I can't stop staring at him.

Goblins join the Pathfinder Adventures party

iOS, Android, PC/Mac •

I still play Pathfinder Adventures more than a year after it was released, and more than 8 months after any new major content was added. I’m not sure I can say that about many other board games on my iPad. Maybe Galaxy Trucker? Twilight Struggle? Agricola? Those are some of the App Store’s heaviest hitters when it comes to digital board games, so Pathfinder is in good company. I’m only going to be playing more now that the long awaited Rise of the Goblins campaign has gone live.

Rise of the Goblins includes a new adventure deck consisting of five scenarios that take you through the events of the Rise of the Runelords campaign, only from the bad guys’ perspective. To play, you’ll need to create a new party of baddies, in this case, Goblins. There are two brand-spanking-new goblin characters you can add, and there are also alternate goblin characters for all of the original 11 characters as well. All these new characters have some new abilities that you haven’t seen before, so the new goblin alts are more than just a cosmetic reskin.

The new content also includes new dice and locations, and it also swaps the functionality of cards you’ve seen while running through the game with your heroic characters. Now, allies are enemies and vice versa, which should make for an interesting change of pace.

The new expansion is currently on sale via a $6 IAP, and will go up to $9 next week. There appears to be a bug (I’m shocked!) that prevents players of the iOS version from actually purchasing the expansion. I’m guessing we’ll see a hotfix for that soon, but you can also buy it on any platform and unlock it later on the iOS version.
