The twist is that there is no twist.

What does Playdek have up their sleeve?

Not a lot of time today, so I’m going to just touch on a little nibble that I found last week but haven’t been able to coerce a certain forum member into divulging any details. Yet. It all stems from a tiny little blurb in last month’s GMT Games newsletter.

The blurb in question is in the Digital News section of the newsletter and contains one cryptic paragraph:

Sighted at this April’s GMT Weekend at the Warehouse: Team members from Playdek, the programming wizards who brought us that marvelous digital version of Twilight Struggle. What does this mean? The world wonders…. One passerby did note that he heard the Playdek folks describe the Chinese dinner they shared with Gene and Volko as “divine!”

When pressed what this might allude to our in-house Playdek representative, Strangiato, told me that they simply found some really good Chinese food.

Now, an intelligent man might believe such a story, but I’m definitely not one of those and I can smell a scoop. Problem is, nobody’s talking. I’ve been browsing through the GMT catalog to see if there are any games involving China and/or religion (why else the quotes around “divine”?) and have come up empty (unless it’s Here I Stand, but I don’t think any of us are that lucky). This is where you come in. Do we have any idea what game this might be hinting at as Playdek’s next foray into GMT goodness? Anyone? Please someone say yes.

If not, I’m going to have to drive to San Diego and keep an eye on the Playdek guys personally until they spill the beans. Seeing as I’m still in Germany, another trip isn’t in the budget, so that plan is out the window. Let’s work together and either bug Strangiato until he talks or figure this out on our own. I’m okay with either, really.

  1. Not GMT, but wouldn’t Caverna and then A Feast For Odin be the logical next step? Either of those with the Agricola treatment would melt my brain.

Honestly, though, Playdek is at the top of my “instabuy” list. They could make a digital version of Poo and I’d buy it the second it showed up in the App Store.

  2. While we are here piling on the Playdek speculation and requests, how about a universal update to Twilight Struggle? Pretty please?

    Wa… wait, wh… what? DON’T TEASE ME!

  4. I think @Mirefox is right–Feast for Odin seems the most logical. Little known fact: Vikings really liked Chinese food.

Ok, fine, this is little more than wishful thinking…

  5. Whenever I get Chinese food, they do an incredible job of packing the food into those cartons and then packing those cartons into a single bag. If that isn’t Feast For Odin, I don’t know what is…

  6. Yeah, with the lack of updates on Playdek games, I’d be more than happy to just see the universal TS, and iphone X support for Agricola…

  7. Fields of Fire. FIELDS OF FIRE.

Maybe something is actually, finally happening with that iOS port of Commands & Colors: Ancients that was first rumoured to be coming from this partnership what, six years ago? Or, otherwise, hmm… “divine”… Conquest of Paradise? “food”… Dominant Species? Any of these would be acceptable.
