iOS Universal, Android, Consoles, Switch, PC/Mac • While I absolutely adored the PC/Mac version of Thimbleweed Park earlier this year, I’ll admit that I still haven’t fully solved the Twin Peaks-like murder mystery that lies in the game’s center. The game is big and sprawling and while it looks and feels like a 1990’s LucasArts point-and-click title, there’s much more here to unravel story-wise. I’ve kind of been waiting for the mobile version to launch so I can follow the exploits of Agents Ray and Reyes–who are in no way anything like Dana Scully or Fox Mulder–on my couch. The wait is nearly over! Thimbleweed Park is coming to iOS next week and Android in October.
iOS, PC/Mac • It’s been a long time since I’ve played a true RPG on my iPad. Sure, there are a ton of games with RPG elements in them–Pathfinder Adventures immediately come to mind–but nothing with the joy of building your characters from scratch and watching them level up while working your way through a well-told story. Thus, I’m pretty excited for West of Loathing. Not only is it a “real” RPG, but it offers a graphic style that sets it apart from anything else I’ve seen on the App Store.
iOS Universal, Android, PC/Mac • You might remember Mi-Clos Studio from their classic study in isolation, Out There, a game with beautiful art that tells the story of a stranded astronaut trying to find their way home. It was thoughtful, a little dark, and very hard. These are all traits that do not apply to their latest, Dungeon Rushers. Developed by Goblinz Studio and published by Mi-Clos, Dungeon Rushers is full of 8-bit art and has its tongue firmly within its cheek. This is a game that takes dungeon crawling the level of seriousness it probably deserves, but still manages to be a fairly deep and interesting RPG. Oh, and it’s coming to iOS and Android on February 23.
