When Panzer Corps was released for iPad back in 2013, it immediately became the best war game made for the platform and, to this day, hasn’t been surpassed. The PC version that preceded it isn’t bad either, and has spawned 17 expansions since its release in 2011. With all this success, it could only be a matter of time before a sequel appeared. That time came last week when Slitherine announced a successor, creatively titled Panzer Corps 2.
We don’t know much about the upcoming sequel, but we do know that it’s moving to the Unreal 4 engine and will be fully 3D vs. the original’s top-down 2D perspective. Despite the change, Flashback Games assures us that the gameplay will hew close to the original:
The move to a fully 3D engine is a natural evolution of the game, but the core gameplay will always remain true to its roots: pay tribute to the classic gameplay of a distant golden age of strategy gaming, refine it, perfect it and use the most recent technologies to enhance these experiences and bring them to a new generation of gamers. In other words, strike the perfect balance between tradition and innovation, both in visuals and gameplay.
The game is still deep in development, and there’s not much else to talk about, not even expected platforms. They did release an announcement trailer but, much like other Slitherine teasers, it doesn’t reveal anything about gameplay. We’ll keep an eye out for any news, you keep your eye on the teaser trailer.
