No Plane Jane – Rogue Aces Taxis For Take-Off

PS4, PS Vita, Nintendo Switch •

It’s time to stop pushing Dogfight into that old BBC Micro. Care of Infinite State Games, those scalliwags behind Don’t Die Mr Robot and Fruitorius, Rogue Aces is hitting Switch, PS4 and Vita on April 12th. Let David Caruso and The Who take you to the next level, from Achtung! Spitfire to Ack-fun Spi-…just read on.

If W.E. Johns had written Biggles with a spritz of Evel Knieval, you’d get Rogue Aces. It’s how I certainly want my retro efforts – clean, vibrant, unaffected by faux-fuzz from CRT fakery. Gorgeous sprites, gameplay readability measured in micro-seconds and a hearty dose of mid-air hijacking. If you liked Luftrausers or Jets’n’Guns, chances are Rogue Aces will sortie you out. Mission priorities below.

Campaign: 100 randomly generated missions over a procedurally generated series of islands.

Veteran Campaign: Same as Campaign but with all the training aids taken off. The way it’s meant to be played.

Frontline Campaign: A map based Time Attack campaign mode where you take on an island’s worth of objectives at a time.

Rogue Ace: Ultimate arcade madness. Fully powered up, no missions, just score attack.

Survival: All out non-stop arcade deathmatch dogfightin’ fun.

Bomber Defence: *TOP SECRET*

Plus much more secret stuff

I’ve enjoyed the pants off Infinite State Games’ arcadia prior, but this is very much up my (MiG) alley. The anachronistic un-funny quota has been met. Look, watch the vid and have your console of choice (Vita LIVES) ready on the 12th.

  1. Really excited for this one. Don’t Die Mr. Robot! is one of the best little arcade games in recent memory, and this looks even better. I’ll be getting this on my Switch instead of my Vita, though. I still love my Vita to death but in a lot of ways the Switch feels like a Vita 2.0. It’s got a solid build quality, it’s decently portable, has tons of indie support, and it has cross-buy support by default. The only things it doesn’t have are a decent d-pad and anywhere near the Vita’s battery life. And Spelunky.

  2. I really hope it scratches the Glory Days itch. But yeah, should be a blast wherever you play it.

  3. Oh my God. Yes please.
