Under cover of darkness, new Card Thief content sneaks onto the App Store

September 7, 2017 David Neumann 0

iOS Universal, Android • In our review of Card Thief earlier this year, our only major beef with the game was “trash loot”. Many of the chest would be mostly (or completely) filled with loot that did nothing. It was pure garbage and didn’t have any in-game value whatsoever. The first major update for Card Thief landed today with the biggest news being that Tinytouchtales solved the problem of trash loot.

Feast your eyeballs on this, the first Through the Ages trailer

September 7, 2017 David Neumann 13

iOS Universal, Android • We’re only a week away from Through the Ages–the reason I bought an iPad 2 six years ago–finally appearing on the App Store. In preparation, Czech Games Edition has just launched the first official trailer and, well, I’m not sure I need to say much more than that. See you all in-game next Thursday!

Yes, Warhammer Quest 2 is coming in October, we asked Perchang to fill us in on the details

September 6, 2017 David Neumann 92

iOS, Android • As most of you are probably already aware, the much-anticipated dungeon crawler, Warhammer Quest 2, is due to arrive in October. October 19th to be exact. You can find this information all over the internet, but we saw it first over at Touch Arcade where Ben Murch, ex-Rodeo Games and current-Perchang head honcho spilled the beans in their forums (observant readers will notice our own Nick Vigdahl as the author of that TA story. Hooray, Nick!). I was kind of loath to simply write a post regurgitating release date news, so instead we got Ben Murch on the horn and asked him a few questions about the upcoming Warhammer Quest 2. Enjoy!

Sentinels adding a little variety all through autumn

September 6, 2017 David Neumann 1

iOS Universal, Android, PC/Mac/Linux • I’ve been noticing a lot of people on social media decrying the end of summer and whining that autumn is nearly upon us. These people are morons. Autumn is the best goddamned season of the entire year and I’ll fight anyone who claims summer is all that. Can you wear flannel while eating chili in front of a roaring fire in summer? Hell no! Autumn wins. If I had a mic drop gif, this is where I’d put it. Handelabra is on my side, and are doing their darndest to make autumn even better. Starting last night, their Fall of the Variants event began and we can expect new, free Sentinels of the Multiverse goodness every week through December.

New word game, Wordwich, now live on the App Store

September 6, 2017 David Neumann 0

iOS • Shakespeare once said, “…brevity is the soul of wit,” but he did so in the middle of 30,000 words in what would be his longest play. In other words, Shakespeare has been trolling the shit out of high school sophomores who have been reading Hamlet since 1609. That said, he was definitely on to something, which is why I try to keep all my posts as short as possible. LOOK AT ALL THIS WIT! When it comes to games, however, it’s commonly thought that brevity sucks. Wordwich would beg to differ as it’s the shortest damn game I’ve ever played. It’s not the wittiest, but it does manage to be somewhat addictive.

Keep calm and bow before your new Asmodee overlords

September 6, 2017 David Neumann 14

I was stumbling around the App Store last night, as I’m prone to do from time to time, and came upon some startling info. When I visited the Twilight Struggle page on iTunes, I noticed that Playdek‘s name was no longer on the byline, replaced by none other than Asmodee Digital. This appears to be the case for Ascension as well. What the heck is going on?

My first game of Eight-Minute Empire lasted 20 minutes

September 5, 2017 David Neumann 14

iOS Universal, Android, PC/Mac • If you’re not familiar with board game designer Ryan Laukat, you should be. He’s designed some real gems with themes ranging from battling ancient titans to conquering the stars. That’s not all. In fact, Ryan is a true renaissance man, he’s a board game publisher, designer, and artist all in one. Each game from Red Raven is a complete Ryan Laukat creation, which is kind of cool. As of yet, however, none of Red Raven’s games have gone digital. That ended this morning when Eight-Minute Empire landed on the App Store.

Furries rejoice! Armello is finally coming to the App Store

September 5, 2017 David Neumann 13

iOS, Android, PC/Mac/Linux • Does anyone here remember that first Armello trailer and how gaga Owen went over it? Okay, I’ll admit we all went a bit gaga over it. After all, it was a theatrical-quality trailer promising an original board game with all sorts of cool mechanisms that would be tough to pull off on a tabletop. On top of that you play as an anthropomorphic animal, making the furry inside each of us cry out in joy. The PC/Mac version of Armello released just over 2 years ago and, since then, talk of the promised iPad version has been virtually nonexistent. In fact, I was talking with Brad from 164 at Gen Con about Armello and if it would ever come to mobile and we both thought they were only focusing on the desktop and consoles. Guess we should have chatted at PAX instead because at that con Armello was being played on an iPhone.

Raise a glass for Codito, classiest chaps on the App Store

September 5, 2017 David Neumann 14

iOS Universal • As we draw nearer to the doom that is iOS 11, it’s becoming more and more clear which of your apps will still work in October and which won’t. Some of the apps we wouldn’t have been surprised to see go away are the catalog of board games released by Codito. After all, Codito is a one-man show that left the digital board game biz years ago when he needed to make enough money to buy luxuries like food and shelter. So, if Codito had said, “Sorry!” and let their apps die, it would have been sad, but understandable. Codito’s not doing that, however. Instead, they’ve promised that all their apps will be converted to 64-bits and that process is well underway. Ra has already been converted and, last night, Le Havre made the leap to 64-bits as well.

Reports of XCOM: Enemy Within’s death at the hands of iOS 11 have been greatly exaggerated

September 1, 2017 David Neumann 9

iOS Universal • In the past couple weeks we’ve been introduced to Darkest Dungeon on iPad, a game that plays a lot like XCOM if XCOM were about battling Cthulhu instead of E.T. In all the articles written about DD, I’m referenced XCOM and, yet, haven’t included links to the outstanding iPad version like I have with all the other games we mention. Why? Because XCOM: Enemy Within was one of those games on the 64-bit chopping block and publisher 2K hadn’t said bupkis about it getting updated. Thus, we assumed XCOM would be possibly the biggest loss when iOS 11 rolls out later this year. Turns out our fears were misplaced, as yesterday 2K had some very interesting news.
