Race for the Galaxy updates, comes to PC on June 27

June 8, 2017 David Neumann 21

iOS, Android, PC • If you asked me my pick for Game of the Year on May 2, I would have had a hard time narrowing it down. Let’s face it, 2017 has been a pretty great year for mobile apps with releases like Onirim, Card Thief, and Warlock of Firetop Mountain just to name a few. On May 3rd, however, Race for the Galaxy landed on the App Store and I can honestly say that I haven’t played another mobile title this much in a long, long time. It’s nearly perfect in just about every way and the few remaining issues are on Temple Gate‘s radar. In fact, they plan on having them all cleaned up on June 27.

Carcassonne getting an Asmodee update

June 6, 2017 David Neumann 0

Android, PC • Last week the somewhat surprising news broke that Asmodee and Obsidian had joined forces, and that Asmodee would now be publishing Pathfinder Adventures for PC and mobile. The Asmodee surprises keep coming with this week revealing that they’re tackling one of the most beloved digital games out there: Carcassonne.

The Dresden Files is getting a cooperative card game, and it’s coming to mobile

June 1, 2017 David Neumann 4

iOS, Android, PC/Mac • If you’re not familiar with the Dresden Files, here’s a quick synopsis: Harry Dresden is a wizard in Chicago and there’s all sorts of supernatural shit that happens and he saves the day and no one ever uses the word “muggle”. That pretty much covers it. It’s a good series, but I’ll admit I stalled during book 2 planning to get back to it, and just never made it there. Now there are 15 books in the series and that might be too high a mountain to climb. Yes, I’m that lazy. Luckily, there’s a Dresden Files card game in the works and, even better, there’s a digital port of it as well.

Predynastic Egypt now available on the App Store

June 1, 2017 David Neumann 1

iOS Universal, Android, PC/Mac • If you’re like me, the only thing you know about ancient Egypt is that their gods looked like Gerard Butler and that King Tut had a condo made of stone-a. That’s not entirely true, as classic city-builders like Impressions’ Pharaoh and Tilted Mill’s Children of the Nile are two of my favorite oldies. From them I learned that jugglers will only walk so far down the street and don’t build farms too close to the Nile. In other words, I’m nearly an Egyptologist. Today a new Egypt simulation landed on the App Store, covering the time period when the pyramids weren’t even gleams in Imhotep’s eye. Predynastic Egypt is the rather dull title, but the game itself looks very promising.

Pathfinder Adventures moving to PC/Mac in 2 weeks

May 31, 2017 David Neumann 5

iOS Universal, Android, PC/Mac • Close your eyes and empty your mind, we’re going on a journey into the past. Falling…falling we watch the time pass by until we reach…yesterday. Oh, right, it was only yesterday when we announced that Pathfinder Adventures would be coming to PC/Mac some time down the road. Anyway, it turns out that road is a very short one with Obsidian today confirming that Pathfinder Adventures would be coming to PC/Mac on June 15.

Pathfinder Adventures finally getting new content, just not THAT new content

May 30, 2017 David Neumann 5

iOS Universal, Android, PC/Mac (coming soon) • Back in December, Obsidian capped off the first Adventure Path for their bug-laden-yet-nearly-perfect card game, Pathfinder Adventures. Even before the final chapter was released, there were questions about the future of Pathfinder Adventures. Would it begin a new Adventure Path? Would there be new characters? Would the bugs ever get fully squashed? It’s nearly six months later and we’ve not heard an answer to any of those questions…wait for it…until this weekend. BOOM!

Do we want Missile Cards on our iOS devices? Yes! You can help make it shiny.

May 25, 2017 David Neumann 4

iOS • There have been plenty of great card game releases thus far in 2017, but one that wasn’t on my radar until a few weeks ago was Missile Cards from Nathan Meunier. A turn-based mashup of 1980’s Missile Command and 2015’s Card Crawl, Missile Cards has everything it takes to be a fantastic mobile title. Unfortunately, it’s only for PC right now, but that’s changing. In fact, it’s coming to iOS very, very soon.

Play out all your Shawshank fantasies right now with Prison Architect: Mobile

May 25, 2017 David Neumann 0

iPad, Android Tablets, PC, Mac, Linux • I’ll admit that when I first heard praise being heaped upon a PC title called Prison Architect, I was a bit suspect. I love builders and simulation games more than I love my second and third children (my eldest is okay, I guess), but the theme turned me off and I didn’t give it another look until well after it had been released. As it turns out, the only thing waiting did was keep me from playing a fantastic builder. This morning, Paradox released the mobile version of Introversion‘s Prison Architect for iPad and Android tablets and it sure is nice to test my electric chair while sitting on the couch.

Pixel Tactics Online is basically Pixel Tactics, but online

May 22, 2017 David Neumann 5

PC, Mac, iOS, Android • I’ve never played Pixel Tactics from Level 99 Games due to the fact that the tabletop card-battler is two-player only. Two player games became an endangered species at my house the minute we decided to have more than one kid. Lucky for me, Level 99 is bringing the game to both laptops and mobile later this year, so I’ll be able to finally give it a go without ignoring one of my kids. Instead, I can now ignore them all.

Short Cuts: The Surge

May 19, 2017 Alex Connolly 1

PC, Consoles • The Surge is out, and by a piston’s hiss, is it grand. For good or ill, Deck13‘s futuristic brawler will be known as ‘that robot Dark Souls‘, and if it helps cut to the chase, then I’m all for it. FROM Software’s punitive dark fantasy has laid the groundwork for what has now been coined Soulslike, a tidy riff on the descendants and pretenders to Rogue. Soulslike it is. Industrial body horror Soulslike, even better.
