Keith Burgun is back…on Kickstarter

September 10, 2019 David Neumann 2

Tabletop Keith Burgun is one of those designers who, when they announce a new project, I listen. The designer of 100 Rogues and Auro: A Monster Bumping Adventure deserves at least that much. He excels at making turn-based strategy games in which every move needs to be calculated and meticulously thought out. What’s not to love? His latest idea is a card game called Dragon Bridge and, unlike his previous games, this one isn’t digital.

Feud set to release next week with asynchronous multiplayer

May 17, 2019 David Neumann 0

iOS, Android, PC/Mac/Linux The last time we talked about Feud from Bearwaves, the title of the post was, “Remember Feud?“. A year later and I guess that title would have worked quite well once again. I considered it, in fact, but then Bearwaves dropped a bombshell: async play is coming. When? When the game releases on May 21st, of course.

Shards of Infinity ready for polishing

March 11, 2019 David Neumann 208

iOS, Android, PC Temple Gates came out of nowhere in 2017 to rock our worlds with the, still fantastic, digital port of Race for the Galaxy. While we know they’ve been working on it’s dicey cousin, Roll for the Galaxy, we also know that they’ve hooked up with Stone Blade Entertainment and have been working on their 2-player card battler, Shards of Infinity. Looks like the latter has been getting the bulk of the attention because, today, they announced that beta signups are open.

Shroom for two! Mushroom hunting card game, Morels, coming to iOS/Android next week

November 20, 2018 David Neumann 23

iOS, Android • I realize that mushrooms are merely the sexy parts of a gigantic microscopic decomposer spreading for miles under the forest floor, slowly digesting any and everything dead, but they’re so damn tasty. Seriously, I love the things and would put them in nearly everything if they didn’t cause all three of my kids to display their revulsion via dry heave noises. I’ve never actually gone and hunted my own from the wild because I’m ignorant and lazy [two qualities that define Dave regardless of activity -ed.]. For those of us who love the shroom, but aren’t devoted mycophiles, there’s Morels, a 2-player card game released in 2014 that’s making its way to mobile next week.

Asmodee can’t take a week off, sneak-releases Kings and Assassins

August 10, 2018 David Neumann 1

iOS, Android, PC • A week ago Asmodee Digital surprised us all with the announcement of Gloomhaven and other games coming out later this year and in 2019. I was at the press conference and took pictures of all the games they listed for the next 2 years and nowhere did they list Kings and Assassins. So, it makes perfect sense that, this week, they released Kings and Assassins. [insert head banging into wall gif here]

It’s all about the beans when Bohnanza The Duel lands tomorrow

October 25, 2017 David Neumann 1

iOS Universal, Android • Usually when we’re told of a new release only a day before it’s coming to the App Store, I’d say we were surprised. When that release is Bohnanza The Duel and the developer is DIGIDICED, however, it’s less surprise and more of course they’re releasing that game. After all, it’s another 2-player Uwe Rosenberg title which, other than Terra Mystica, is what DIGIDICED does, so it was only a matter of time before it went digital. Now that the intro’s out of the way, are we ready for some bean farming?

Cardboard Critique: The Fox in the Forest

August 7, 2017 Nick Vigdahl 7

Tabletop • I’ve been on a quest of late to find the best two-player tabletop games the world has to offer. Card games, board games, dice games…it doesn’t matter, I just want fun games to play with my wife around home or with a friend now and then. I may have stumbled onto something with my latest conquest, The Fox in the Forest.

Avignon: A Clash of Popes arrives on mobile

January 4, 2017 David Neumann 1

Despite what you might be hoping, Avignon: A Clash of Popes does not feature Stephen IV and St. Peter performing the fish slapping dance. Nor does it feature Boniface VI riding a pegasus while holding the severed head of Sixtus II. Despite that, it sounds like a pretty great game.
