Does anyone here remember that first Armello trailer and how gaga Owen went over it? Okay, I’ll admit we all went a bit gaga over it. After all, it was a theatrical-quality trailer promising an original board game with all sorts of cool mechanisms that would be tough to pull off on a tabletop. On top of that you play as an anthropomorphic animal, making the furry inside each of us cry out in joy. The PC/Mac version of Armello released just over 2 years ago and, since then, talk of the promised iPad version has been virtually nonexistent. In fact, I was talking with Brad from 164 at Gen Con about Armello and if it would ever come to mobile and we both thought they were only focusing on the desktop and consoles. Guess we should have chatted at PAX instead because at that con Armello was being played on an iPhone.
Due to the Stately Play convention budget being approximately $0, and the fact that we blew past that simply by driving to Gen Con, PAX wasn’t a possibility this year. Lucky for us, Touch Arcade went and happened to spot Armello in action. This report was followed by a confirmation from League of Geeks who also gave us heads up that we can expect it this year:
The cat is out of the bag, and may be fighting for the throne.
Armello is coming to iPhone AS WELL as iPad later this year. https://t.co/s23eZreCHW

That’s not all we’ve learned. The iOS release will have the base game free-to-download, with all the other content available via IAP. All the content currently available for the PC version will be there for iOS, you’ll just have to buy it piecemeal. There will be no cross-platform play between iOS and PC, so if you get it on iOS, you’ll only be battling other mobile users. If you’re wondering about Android, they’ve also let us know that an Android version is in the works and should be available in 2018.
This is pretty great news for those of us who were holding out hope for Armello on a tablet all these years. The only problem is that 2017 is getting ridiculous and really needs to slow down. I’m dreading all the year-end GOTY stuff already, and it’s only September.
Having never played this on PC, does anyone now whether you can only play vs. online humans or is there a vs.-AI option as well? It’s a beautiful looking game, but always-online, playing against other humans is not as appealing to me.
About damn time… I kickstarted this forever ago and still have yet to play a single second of it.
There’s an AI as well and you can play solo vs. AI on Steam.
Not sure if the app will require an “always-on” internet connection, but I don’t see why it would.
I don’t care how pretty it looks, if it’s sync only, there isn’t a chance in hell I’d buy it.

… which means a required internet connection is a virtual certainty. After all, why would a developer do what makes sense in this case?
With all the traps / spells / and re-equipping that goes on during another players turn, asynchronous just wouldn’t work. Love this on PC, but I probably wouldn’t pick it up on mobile or a tablet. If you could finish a game in 15 min, sure.
playing online real-time games on PC? or just solo games, like in Talisman?
i own it on PS4 and never ever played a multiplayer game.
and not many solo games (1 or 2).
in fact a waste of money.
no matter how long an async game might take, it would be way way better than what i’ve got now
iOS beta is about to begin, according to the latest Kickstarter update…
Yeah. Was going to post about the iOS sign ups today, but ran out of time.
I actually registered first thing this morning but forgot to post about it too!
Any word on when this is coming out of Beta? Even when I joined it seemed pretty polished but I think that was at least three months ago. It’s a terrific game imo
I downloaded it for free on the New Zealand App Store yesterday but haven’t had the chance to play it yet
Cool, thanks. I wondered if it would be free with IAPs or if it would be the full premium deal. It’s a great game and enough variation with all the different characters to give it decent replayability.
