Getting a pretty strong vibe from another Knizia classic here: Samurai

Dire Wolf delivers Yellow & Yangtze to mobile, Steam

  • iOS, Android, PC/Mac

Earlier this year Dire Wolf Digital surprised us with a lengthy list of board games they’re going to be bringing to digital over the next few years. The announcement was followed by the release of Raiders of the North Sea which is one of the best board game apps of 2019. Since July it’s been quiet on the Dire Wolf front, however, with nary a word about the progress on titles like Root or, my most anticipated, Mage Knight.

Today, however, Dire Wolf is back in the spotlight with the second release from their burgeoning portfolio: Reiner Knizia’s Yellow & Yangtze.

Yellow & Yangtze is the spiritual successor to the Knizia abstract classic, Tigris & Euphrates. Considering that T&E was a game I could never quite wrap my head around, I don’t think I’m going to be a lot of help with this one. So, let’s blurb it out:

Found an Empire

Lead your dynasty to victory in the Warring States period of ancient China in the new digital adaptation of the acclaimed board game from Tigris & Euphrates designer Reiner Knizia.

Build & Conquer

Conflict is inevitable as your influence expands. Wage war upon neighboring states to slow their growth, and build spectacular pagodas to increase your own prestige. How will your reign be remembered?

Balance in All Things

Expand your civilization by placing tiles that represent the five facets of a thriving kingdom:Governors – Keep the peace and quell revolts with a strong civic leadership!

Soldiers – Defend your growing empire — or wage war upon your neighbors!

Farmers – Cultivate the banks of the Yellow and Yangtze rivers!

Traders – Acquire the resources your people need to prosper!

Artisans – Shape the culture of your dynasty and inspire your citizens!
Your legacy will be judged by your weakest category, so a wise leader must maintain harmony to achieve victory!

Your legacy will be judged by your weakest category, so a wise leader must maintain harmony to achieve victory!

So there you have it. If you’re not familiar with Dire Wolf’s body of board game work, let me reassure you that they’re one of the good ones. Their previous titles are all beautiful, play great, and even have a working asynchronous online game system in place. I’m guessing Yellow & Yangtze will be no different.

Y&Y is going to be going live today on iOS, Android, and PC/Mac via Steam.
